About the Writer/Director

Tom Sveen is a writer and director from Bismarck, North Dakota. He began his professional career as a sportswriter, working in the Minnesota Timberwolves PR department and on the Minneapolis Star Tribune sports desk. Since making the switch to visual storytelling, he has interned in development for Big Beach Films and assisted on David Gordon Green’s film, Prince Avalanche. Tom specializes in mining drama from small moments. Smut is his non-thesis film.

About the Producer/Director of Photography

John Wakayama Carey is a New York City-based producer and cinematographer, and a recent graduate of Columbia’s MFA Film producing program. While enrolled at Columbia, he shot more than 40 short films in 8 countries. He has photographed numerous commercials for Adidas and in 2013, added two feature films to his growing resume. Smut is his thesis film as producer.

About the Producer

After graduating from Mount Holyoke College, Sarah worked in post-production on films including Charlie Wilson’s War, Music and Lyrics, and most recently the HBO/Cinemax series, The Knick. She enrolled in Columbia University’s MFA Film Program to concentrate on writing and producing. While at Columbia, she collaborated on a number of short films and was the recipient of the Producing Master Fellowship. She is drawn to stories that give voice to underrepresented points of view and has a soft spot for a good teen drama.
