Set during West Virginia's 2014 Elk River chemical spill, Dawn, a first-generation college student responsible for her rebellious younger sister, becomes consumed by a startling issue with their water supply. But the more she investigates, the more she is ultimately confronted with the complexities of crisis.

About the Writer/Director

Ursula Ellis is a writer/director based in New York City. A former “Army brat” with roots in Appalachia, she is committed to telling stories that explore underrepresented American subcultures.

Crick in the Holler, which received an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Production Grant, is her tenth short film, all of which have screened at festivals around the world. She is in development on her first feature, Anomalies, an Academy Nicholls Fellowship quarterfinalist script.

About the Producer

Nadia Zoe is a New York-based filmmaker originally from the Southwest. She has had the pleasure to produce several projects including Alfred P. Sloan Production Grant winner, Crick in the Holler, which was shot entirely in West Virginia. In her own writing/directing work, she was a finalist in the teleplay competition at the Austin Film Festival and directed the indie short Mariachi Madness, premiering at the Chicago Latino Film Festival.
